A 28-year-old Vacaville man was sentenced to 40-years-to-life in prison last week in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman on Valentines Day 2025 in Vallejo.
After three days of deliberations, a Solano County Superior Court jury delivered a second-degree murder conviction last month against Imani Marquise Robinson for the shooting death of Ceri Anne Granger. He had been charged with first degree murder but jury opted for the second degree conviction with an enhancement of personal use of a firearm in the crime.
Deputy District Attorney Jason Lianides prosecuted the case. Deputy Public Defender Denisse Tanasa represented Robinson.
Robinson had sought a Racial Justice Action motion in the case. Such motions involve a challenge to a criminal conviction or sentence based on allegations of racial, ethnic, or national origin discrimination. Enacted in 2020, the California Racial Justice Act prohibits the state from seeking or obtaining criminal convictions or imposing sentences base on race, ethnicity, or national origin.
In court Wednesday, Judge William J. Pendergast sentenced Robison to 15-years-to-life in prison on the second degree murder charge and found that the defense had failed to establish a prima facia claim under the Racial Justice Action motion.
In addition, the judge sentenced him to a consecutive term of 25-years-to-life in prison for the personal use of a gun enhancement, bringing Robinson’s total agragate sentence to 40-years-to-life in prison.
As previously reported, Vallejo police officers responded a late night call on Valentines Day 2025 about a shooting in the 400 block of Sheldon Avenue. Granger, suffering from at least one gunshot wound, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Department detectives also responded and took over the investigation, which later identified Robinson as the suspect.
Days later, on Feb. 24, detectives obtained a Ramey warrant, a type of arrest warrant issued by a judge and allows law enforcement officers to arrest a suspect based on probable cause.
Working with the Vacaville Police Department SWAT and Critical Incident Negotiation Team, Vallejo officers conducted a successful operation at a Marshall Road residence in Vacaville, where Robinson was taken into custody without incident.
