“Love Island USA” contestant Cashel Barnett is expected to serve a year in jail after taking a plea deal for aggravated assault, connected to a case involving sexual abuse, both felonies, after he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend in front of their young child.
The reality TV alum will plead guilty to one count of third-degree felony aggravated assault and one count of third-degree felony domestic violence in the presence of a child, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ.
Barnett will be sentenced on March 16, wherein prosecutors will also advocate for his jail sentence to be followed by probation. He has agreed to plead guilty to second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse in a related but separate case.
Barnett was taken into custody in mid-May for aggravated assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child, due to assaults on his ex-girlfriend between December 2024 and April 2025, according to multiple outlets at the time.
He was charged in late June in relation to a November 2024 attack on the victim, who said he slapped and choked her during a sexual assault in front of their toddler daughter.
The charges came weeks into Barnett being held without bail in a Utah jail on charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child.
The alleged victim is glad to avoid a trial but doesn’t love the idea of Barnett getting off with a plea deal, a source close to her told TMZ.
Prior to his legal troubles, Barnett came to prominence for his 2019 run on the American iteration of the British reality hit, “Love Island.” Three years later, he appeared in two episodes of the competition series, “The Challenge: US.”
