Man dies in collision with parked vehicle – The Mercury News Today Us News

SAN LEANDRO — A man died Saturday night after a car collided with a unoccupied parked vehicle, authorities said.

The two other occupants of the vehicle — the driver and a second passenger — were transported to a hospital, according to a news release from the San Leandro Police Department.

Around 11:17 p.m., an SLPD officer who had been working with the Regional Sideshow Enforcement Team, a multi-agency initiative aimed at preventing sideshows and street racing, began a traffic stop on a white Infiniti SUV related to violations of the vehicle code, authorities said. They attempted the stop near East 14th Street and Bancroft Avenue.

Instead of stopping, the Infiniti fled the scene, authorities said. The officer did not pursue the vehicle.

The Infiniti traveled north on Bancroft Avenue as it was monitored by an air unit from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department, authorities said. Shortly after, the Infiniti collided with the parked vehicle on the 13800 block of Bancroft Avenue.
