A fundraiser seeking to help a Concord man injured last week during a blizzard in the Sierra Nevada had gathered nearly $10,000 by Monday afternoon.
Daniel Tam, 23, and two others were injured on Feb. 16. Authorities said a pickup truck lost control on a snow-covered stretch of state Highway 50 near South Lake Tahoe and hit the trio as they worked to put on tire chains.
A 23-year-old San Jose resident and 22-year-old San Leandro resident were the other two who suffered serious injuries. All three were hospitalized and remained in critical condition at a hospital, according to a post associated with the fundraiser.
The other two have not been identified publicly.
Tam “suffered unimaginable injuries that will require a lot of medical attention and a long foreseeable journey of healing,” the post read. The fundraiser had collected $9,795 by 1 p.m. Monday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash threw one of the three men about 40 feet and dragged the other two. People passing by and Caltrans workers helped to free them, authorities said. All three went by ambulance to a hospital, and one of the three later was airlifted to a Reno hospital.
The fundraiser said the Tam’s family and friends would host a bake sale Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. at 1320 Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek.
