Traffic is moving Thursday, albeit slowly, on a stretch of Highway 1 in Mendocino County after a landslide blocked lanes in both directions just one day earlier.
The landslide was reported about 7 a.m. Wednesday near the town of Elk, about 18 miles north of Point Arena. It followed a series of rainstorms that soaked the California coast.
No injuries were reported in the aftermath. Among those affected was a Pepsi semitruck that struggled to turn around at the blocked road, the CHP reported Wednesday morning.
Just after 9 a.m. Thursday, Caltrans announced traffic is being allowed to pass one direction at a time, and travelers should expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
Caltrans announced $2 million in emergency funding has been acquired to clean up the landslide. Cleanup efforts progressed overnight but there was no word on when the scene would be fully cleared.
