Wrong-way vehicle collision in Fairfield kills three – The Mercury News Today Us News

FAIRFIELD — Three people died in a wrong-way vehicle collision on Highway 80 early Sunday morning, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 2 a.m. on the highway’s westbound lanes east of Cordelia Weigh Station, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol Solano Area.

Police received initial reports of a four-vehicle collision, but upon arriving at the scene, they determined that there were two separate two-vehicle collisions.

In the first collision, a white Dodge Charger with two adult men collided with a black Land Rover Discovery driven by an adult woman, authorities said. All three people involved in the collision sustained fatal injuries.

Witnesses told investigators that the “light colored sedan” had been traveling in the wrong direction, but police have not yet confirmed which vehicle was the wrong-way driver.

Authorities do not yet know whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
