Former “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Redd says he had a prescription pill habit while on the show and sold pills to his fellow cast members.
Redd, 40, made the stunning admission in an Instagram video.
“While I was at the show, I had some pill issues, you know, some pill problems,” Redd said. “Nothing too crazy, but crazy for my black ass. And I was even selling some to some of my castmates. I’m not gonna snitch on y’all motherf—ers man.”
He added that rather than help him, the cast would “just talk s–t” about him.
“I would hear them because, you know, some of that Adderall s–t got you super hearing and s–t,” Redd said. “But [they] wouldn’t help me, you know. I would have panic attacks, [they] wouldn’t be concerned about me or nothing. Just would talk s–t. It’s crazy how somebody would watch you destroy yourself.”
Sources at the show have denied Redd’s claims, TMZ reported.
One person who did step in, according to Redd, was castmate Kenan Thompson’s ex-wife Christina Evangeline — who Redd ended up dating.
“I know a lot of people talk about me dating Kenan Thompson’s ex-wife [Christina Evangeline] and how that came to be,” he said, adding there “wasn’t no plan.”
“Every single thing that everybody said, I saw it, and bottom line is, I’m not that type of person to scheme on a person. I’m not the type of person to even date somebody that like, one of my homies has dated. This is a very unique, nuanced thing that happened,” Redd said.
“She helped me with my therapy journey and she told me things about her life that made me look at a lot of people involved differently. And in that time, we fell in love,” he said.
“I really loved everything me and Kenan did. I really appreciated every piece of work that we put together. I think that we were a great team. And I hate doing something to somebody that I know would hurt them,” he said. “But, I did choose love.”
“To all the fans I disappointed, just know this was not something — I don’t feel like a pimp. I don’t feel cool about this at all, besides the fact that I found someone that makes me feel like I didn’t even know what love was for real. And I just feel like I couldn’t miss out on it. And love is not sensical,” Redd said.
Redd and Thompson also starred on the sitcom “Kenan,” which ran for two seasons, during which time they and Evangeline agreed to keep the new relationship under wraps before Thompson and Evangeline’s divorce was finalized.
“And then by the time everybody found out and the world found out, I was out of there, SNL,” Redd said.
He later clarified in the comments that it was not an affair, as Thompson and Evangeline “weren’t together and had not been for years when we started.”
Redd joined “SNL” in 2017 before departing after his fifth season in 2022.
He’s also appeared in “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping” with Andy Samberg, “Candy Cane Lane” with Eddie Murphy and “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” among other TV and film projects.
