SAN JOSE — Five people were wounded in a shooting that broke out late Sunday at a busy downtown intersection, police said, capping a day that saw two men shot and killed a few blocks away in the early morning hours, all amid increased crowds for Super Bowl-related festivities.
The latest shooting was reported at 10:47 p.m. near North Market Street and West Santa Clara Street, according to the San Jose Police Department.
“Five adult victims were transported to hospitals with varying gunshot wound injuries and are expected to survive,” police said in a social media post. “This appears to be an isolated incident.”
Police did not immediately release information about any suspects or the circumstances of the shooting Monday morning.
The violence occurred 18 hours after an early Sunday shooting on Paseo de San Antonio, near South Third Street, that killed two men. That attack, reported around 2:20 a.m., was also described by police as an “isolated incident” and a law-enforcement source said it did not immediately appear to be related to any big-game festivities taking place downtown.
There was no information announced about any suspects or arrests in that fatal shooting, which marked the city’s second and third homicides of the year.
