Google is rolling out a new version of its popular AI image generation tool that’s meant to produce better visuals more quickly, six months after challenging OpenAI with the release of the original Nano Banana product.
The Alphabet Inc. company said Nano Banana 2 will make features that were previously only available in its Pro version accessible to anyone using the tool. The updated offering can create higher-resolution images, better infographics and data visualizations that can include text for marketing purposes or greeting cards, Google said in a blog post Thursday. It can also follow complex instructions better, Google said.
The viral success of Nano Banana helped bolster Google’s ambitions to keep pace with OpenAI in the race to build better and more widely adopted artificial intelligence services. Since then, the tech giant has gained ground with the well-received release of its powerful Gemini 3 AI model. Google has also moved to introduced its AI models across all its products, with a focus on Google Search.
Nano Banana 2 will be available Thursday across the Gemini app and Google Search’s AI Mode.
