The shooting was reported around 2:50 p.m. Jan. 10 at a business in a strip mall in the 3000 block of Story Road near South White Road, according to a San Jose police news release.

An investigation determined that the suspect had a brief interaction with a man inside the store “before firing at least one round at him” then fleeing in a vehicle, police said. The victim was treated at a local hospital and is expected to survive.

Responding officers recovered a “privately manufactured firearm” — also referred to as a “ghost gun” and a loaded extended magazine that were abandoned at the crime scene.
