San Jose police arrested two more people in the brazen robbery of a San Jose jewelry store that made international headlines earlier this year.
Officers arrested the 19-year-old men in mid-November and early December, bringing the number of people jailed in the high-profile smash-and-grab to 15, according to the San Jose Police Department, which announced the arrests Monday.
The latest arrests include Jamieon Miller, of Tracy, who is suspected of assaulting the jewelry store’s 88-year-old owner, San Jose police said. Also jailed in connection with the heist was Wesley Miller, of Oakland.
The arrests add to the growing fallout of the Sept. 5 robbery of Kim Hung Jewelry, which cast an international spotlight on the city and prompted a manhunt across much of the Bay Area.
The heist, which was partially captured on video, happened around 2 p.m., when a group of robbers stormed the store, with one driving a car through the storefront on Aborn Road in East San Jose. More than a dozen others immediately flooded the shattered entrance, pillaging the place — breaking display cases and grabbing thousands of dollars in jewelry.
In the process, one robber violently shoved the store’s octogenarian owner to the ground, police said, leaving him bloodied and lacerated from numerous shards of glass. He suffered a stroke following the attack and later a heart attack while recovering in the hospital, both of which doctors attributed to the stress of the robbery.
At least one of the assailants also held a gun to the head of another person in the store.
In a statement announcing the arrests, San Jose police Chief Paul Joseph said his agency would not tolerate such crimes, adding that Jamieon Miller “attacked a hardworking family, not just by damaging their small business, but also by violently harming the elderly business owner.”
“Rest assured, our detectives are dedicated to arresting all individuals involved in this heinous crime so that we can help give peace of mind to our small businesses,” Joseph said, in the news release.
Jamion Miller was arrested in Redwood City, while Wesley Miller was taken into custody in South San Francisco, police said.
