LAFAYETTE — Two men suspected of committing a robbery in Alamo and trying to commit another one in Lafayette were arrested Tuesday, authorities said.
Officers with Lafayette police made the arrest about 1:20 p.m. after police had been alerted to the robbery in Alamo, according to a statement from Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jimmy Lee. The sheriff’s office has jurisdiction over Alamo and contracts out with Lafayette police.
The two men — a 23-year-old Antioch man and 20-year-old man without a residence listed — remained in custody on Thursday in lieu of $200,000 and $150,000 bail, respectively, according to jail records. Lee said officers arrested each man on suspicion of two counts of robbery, attempted robbery and conspiracy.
It all started when the sheriff’s office received reports about 1 p.m. of a robbery at a bank on the 3100 block of Danville Boulevard in Alamo. Danville police identified a license plate after the sheriff’s office broadcast the descriptions of the two men and vehicle to law enforcement agencies.
In a statement, Lafayette police said their officers spotted the car on Dewing Avenue as an attempted robbery happened at a bank in the 3600 block of Mt. Diablo Boulevard. The car raced off, and officers found it a few minutes later parked and unoccupied off of Lafayette Circle.
Lafayette police said officers searched the area and found both men walking and running near East Street and Brook Street and arrested them there. Officers subsequently searched a backpack one of the men wore and found a replica Glock gun, Lee said.
Authorities also are investigating another incident that happened just before the Alamo robbery, Lee said. He did not say what authorities were investigating or where it happened. Independent police agencies in Danville and Orinda and Moraga also helped police find the men.
