SAN JOSE — A fatal pedestrian collision reported in East San Jose on Tuesday morning involved a van driver who hit a woman walking in a shopping center parking lot, police said.
The collision was reported at 11:17 a.m. in a lot near Lido Way and Thackeray Lane. Police initially described the location as being near Story and King roads, which is toward the front side of the shopping center, and later revised the location to reflect that it occurred on the back side of the complex.
According to an initial police investigation, a man driving a 2024 Ford Transit 150 van was traveling south in the lot when he turned left and hit a woman walking in the area.
The woman died at the scene, police said. Her name was not publicly released pending her formal identification and notification of her next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office, but available coroner records indicate she was a 45-year-old San Jose resident.
Police said the driver stopped after the collision, and there is no indication he was arrested or cited.
The collision marked the city’s second traffic death of the year investigated by San Jose police, and also the second involving a pedestrian who died. On Sunday evening, a man walking near South Bascom Avenue and Borello Drive in West San Jose was killed by a hit-and-run driver; and police have not announced any arrests or suspect information in that case.
