Just more than a week before he was gunned down by ICE agents, Alex Pretti was involved in another incident with federal officers in Minneapolis, bystander video shows.

The clip — initially published by digital outlet The News Movement on Wednesday — was recorded on Jan. 13 near E. 36th Street and Park Avenue in Minneapolis’ Powderhorn neighborhood. It shows the 37-year-old ICU nurse among a crowd of protesters yelling at agents in an unmarked vehicle. Pretti can then be seen kicking out the SUV’s taillight, causing one of the officers inside to jump out of the vehicle. He then grabs Pretti by the jacket and pulls him to the ground while other agents pile on, the clip shows.
The struggle lasts for about 20 seconds, at which point Pretti manages to break away from the fray, which also saw officers spray the crowd with rubber bullets and tear gas.
The agents ultimately retreated without bringing Pretti into custody.
Pretti’s parents confirmed to the Guardian he is the man in the video.
“A week before Alex was gunned down in the street — despite posing no threat to anyone — he was violently assaulted by a group of ICE agents<‘ their attorney, Steve Schleicher said. “Nothing that happened a full week before could possibly have justified Alex’s killing.”
Pretti was fatally shot by federal authorities in Minneapolis on Saturday, weeks after Renee Nicole Good, a mother and poet, was fatally shot by ICE agent Jonathan Ross in a residential neighborhood south of downtown Minneapolis.
