LOS ANGELES (AP) — Oscar voters have spoken. They served up 16 nominations to “Sinners” and 13 to “One Battle After Another” on Thursday.

Ryan Coogler was nominated for best director and best screenplay of “Sinners,” a lush vampire tale, and double-duty star Michael B. Jordan was rewarded with his first Oscar nomination, for best actor.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro and Teyana Taylor took acting accolades for “One Battle After Another.”

A deeply personal film only Ryan Coogler could have made. It’s a bluesy, vampire, gangster musical starring Michael B. Jordan in two roles. Vibrantly filmed, its surface pleasures alone are worth celebrating.
