SAN FRANCISCO — Defensive end Keion White of the 49ers was shot in the ankle early Monday in San Francisco but the injury is not believed to be serious.

The 49ers issued the following statement: “Keion White was a victim of a shooting and sustained a bullet wound to his ankle this morning in San Francisco. He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide further updates when appropriate.”

White, 29, was acquired in October from the New England Patriots for a sixth-round draft pick. He played in nine games for the 49ers with two starts with 12 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks.

Drafted in the second round in 2023 by New England out of Georgia Tech, White is a 6-foot-5, 290-pound defensive end who played 319 snaps for the 49ers in 2025. He remains under contract through the 2026 season.

Officers were called to a business in the 1700 block of Mission Street just after 4 a.m. for reports of a shooting, said San Francisco police Officer Paulina Henderson. They arrived to find a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Henderson said the victim was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

An initial investigation revealed two groups got into an argument inside the business, with one person opening fire and injuring the victim, according to Henderson.

Henderson said no arrests have been made.
