ANTIOCH — A 20-year-old Antioch woman died Thursday night after being shot, police said.
Authorities did not identify the woman immediately, pending notification of relatives and the investigation. The killing is the first one investigated by Antioch police this year. They investigated six homicides in 2025.
In a statement, Antioch police Sgt. John Cox said officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 2200 block of Sycamore Avenue about 7:15 p.m. The woman was down with at least one gunshot wound, and officers worked to save her, Cox said. She died at the scene.
Police did not identify any suspects or speculate as to the nature of the shooting. Crime scene investigators and detectives from the violent crime unit are investigating.
No other information was available immediately.
